ABOUT US
Battle Tested Kids (BTK) is a 501 (c) 3 non profit organization that is mission-driven to provide disadvantaged youth with a path to personal growth and success through competitive athletics training and personalized mentorship. Through participation in organized sports training and competition we focus on self-discipline, leadership, accountability, healthy living, teamwork, and responsibility. We recognize and harness the positive influence coaches can have on a young athlete’s professional, intellectual, social, and emotional development. Our goal is to support youth to become conscientious leaders on their teams and in their communities.
Our Story
BTK Founder and Executive Director Nita Simpson began piloting athletic programming for disadvantaged youth and holding amateur sporting events in 2017. Based on the pilot’s success, Nita incorporated BTK in 2019 as a not-for-profit youth sports program. Along with Nita, BTK’s staff includes 8 part-time coaches who come directly from the communities we serve. Many of our coaches have passed through BTK and share lived experiences with participants, enabling them to build the trust necessary to connect and support positive development. Some of our coaches are professional athletes themselves; they serve not only as coaches but as mentors and role models, offering youth a vision of their future if they are committed and determined.
